Frequently asked Questions

Here's the quick answer section to the most commonly asked account questions. If you can't find your answer here, you can email us at hello@bitpress.co.uk - however, there can sometimes be a queue on responses - if you take a look below, you'll often find the answer!

How much space do I get?

Our standard accounts come with 1GB (that's 1024MB) of storage space. This space is taken up by your web files, your email and any databases that you have associated with your account. Everything within your home directory is taken into account (including some hidden files that you may not be aware of when trying to calculate your total usage). You can see the amount of space you've used by logging into your cPanel and checking the left hand column for account information.

How do I log into my cPanel?

You can get to your cPanel by visiting either http://cpanel.bitpress.co.uk or http://bitpress.co.uk/cpanel - you may find that your firewall blocks one of the previous links, so if you can't get access, try the alternative address.

What are my mail settings?

Your account will initially come with a default "catch-all" email account, which will accept all emails to your domain. Your username and password will be the same as the master password sent in your account generation email, and the settings as follows:

  • Incoming mail type: POP3 or IMAP
  • Host: mail.bitpress.co.uk
  • Port: 110 (POP3) or 143 (IMAP)
  • Outgoing mail type: SMTP
  • Host: mail.bitpress.co.uk
  • Port: 25 or 26 (depending on your ISP configuration)

You may add individual accounts by logging into your cPanel and clicking on the "EMail Accounts" link within "Mail".

What are my FTP settings?

Your username and password will be the same as the master password sent in your account generation email, and the settings as follows:

  • Host: ftp.bitpress.co.uk
  • Port: 21
You can also set up other accounts and specify which directories within your account they may access. To create new accounts, log into your cPanel, and click the "FTP Accounts" link under the "Files" section.

Where do I upload my site files to?

Your main site will be served from the public_html folder. If you don't place your files in this folder, they won't be visible to the rest of the world. Once you've logged in via FTP, double click on either the "public_html" or "www" folder, and upload your files there. If you have issues with your site files not being visible, please contact our customer services email.

I've lost my password - what do I do?

Please contact our customer services email, stating your account username, your real name, and your billing address. We will then reset your password, so you can gain access to your account. Please be aware that changing this password will also change the master password that you use to access your default "catch-all" email account, as well as your FTP login details.

I've lost my password - can't you tell me what it was?

For security reasons, all our system passwords are encrypted - even we can't tell you what they were. We can however reset your password to the password of your choice. Please see above.

How do I create a new database/subdomain/email account/etc?

Log into your cPanel account (see above) and check the relevant section - cPanel will automate the creation of all of the above, and more, making changes quick and painless. If you're having problems with the above, please feel free to email our customer support address and we'll look into the problem for you.

How do I get help/complain/give thanks?

Pop an email to info@bitpress.co.uk and let us know what you need - we'll do our very best to help. For security reasons, we may require further details to confirm that you are the account holder, before taking action on an account.

Do you have a phone number/can you call me back?

In order to keep our hosting operations efficient and cost effective, we only supply email for contact - however, all emails will be responded to within one working day, and the majority are answered a lot quicker, so feel free to drop us an email.

What service level guarantees do you give?

We guarantee a minimum of 99.7% uptime on shared and dedicated server accounts, with a minimum 100% uptime for network. Exact terms can be found on our terms and conditions page here, and our acceptable use policy here.
